The sequel to Legend stalled, mostly because I had morning sickness for the past three months, but it was also because I didn't want to just plow on as the manuscript was. The front is a tangled mess and I think (now that I've printed it out and have pen in hand to analyze it) I've started three storylines in the first 180 pages. Which is exactly what I had done with Legend I until my editing staff got hold of the manuscript. They've effectively made me aware that I love to start stories, and will do so uninhibited within the same story over and over again like a retriever playing fetch - DO IT AGAIN!!! YAAAAYYYYY!!! The only problem is that it creates so many red herrings with in the book that by the end you're not sure which storyline is being summated.
Now, this week we've printed out the manuscript and am flushing the storyline forward. We're moving romantic moments farther back (sorry ladies!! :0D) and developing stronger characters. We've got two fresh faces in this sequel adding to the lead characters, they're neither good nor bad but they'd been relegated to just drama fillers in the background. So as my Pink Pen of Doom moves across these 180 pages we're slashing and burning, refining and defining so that the ending becomes clear. This is the exciting part, where the end is just a fragment of ideas now, but as the refining begins it takes on form, molds itself out of the current clay words into solid earth shaking pieces. It's gonna be good.
In this sequel (as some of you know) we dive into Lady MacLaoch's love, a Norseman by the name Minory. He's Cole's lineage and as we learn in the first book he dies a gruesome death by his own sword. The man wielding the final blow is the clan chief of the MacLaoch's, his love's father. The Minory's sword plays a large part in this novel, because much like the ring in Legend I it's saturated with bloodline energy. But unlike the first novel there are victims to the sword's power in this novel, and like the first there's an ending that will require the reader to wear a seatbelt. :0)
As I finalize these edits to the first 180 pages I'll be getting an initial blurb up here - so stay tuned!!!
